President Obama hopes to tackle DADT during lame duck session; Prop. 8 plaintiffs file amicus briefs in appeal; Lady Gaga makes Madame Toussaud’s history.

  • President Obama has once again expressed his opinion that the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy needs to be repealed, and hopes to address the issue again during Congress’ lame duck session.  During a press conference, he said that DADT should not be a partisan issue and that if a person is willing to serve, and potentially lay down their life for, their country, they should not be prevented from doing so simply because of their sexual orientation.  President Obama goes on to say that he has been working with the joint chiefs of staff to come up with potential new policies, and that the recent court cases have actually made things more difficult.  With the status of DADT going back and forth, the military was having difficulties determining which set of rules to folllow. You can watch a clip of his statement here.
  • The plaintiffs in the Prop. 8 case have filed their amicus (“friend of the court”) briefs in the most recent appeal of California’s law banning gay marriage.  Over 20 briefs have been filed on behalf of political, psychological, legal, religious and equality organizations in support of overturning Prop. 8.  Represented organizations include the American Psychological Association, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the National LGBT Bar Association, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the NAACP and more.  You can read more at Prop8TrialTracker.com.
  • Lady Gaga is set to be immortalized by Madame Toussaud’s, not once, but eight times.  She will be featured in a variety of her notable outfits and displayed in museums around the world.  The figures will debut on Dec. 9 at eight of the ten Madame Toussaud’s museums.  See a full list of her featured looks here.
